I found DIY Star Garland and was able to “score” the stars using a burnisher type tool because I couldn’t find an actual scorer. Blue punch was taken up a notch with cut up fresh starfruit (which amazingly you can get from Amazon most of the year). ![]() Moon pies dusted with powdered sugar moons and Celestial Cheesecake Shooters adorned the dessert table, and an adorable cake made in West Seattle by Stuffed Cakes took center stage. Other savory items included the tea sandwiches (including PB & J for kids) cut out in (gasp) moon and star shapes! Friends helped make traditional appetizers and snacks, and my signature salad that usually is made with orzo pasta I made with star shaped pasta instead. I’ve always loved the saying “I Love you To the Moon and Back” and had happened upon an adorable sign on Etsy that I used to build everything around.Įverything was given an astronomy related name. When I asked the mom-to-be what her nursery decor would be (navy and yellow moon and stars) I knew right away what theme I wanted. The planning process is my favorite part of any event. This was not my first baby shower thrown solo, but it was my first baby shower with the lovely addition of Pinterest and Etsy ). When I had the opportunity to host one for a good friend I was stoked! Not because I have an intense love for showers (it’s actually kind of a love-hate relationship), but because I love friendship and parties, and to be exact, parties with a theme. Though I also love the picture towards the end of the big bear holding the little bear in his arms, looking at the baby with such love. I think one of my favourite pictures is of the bears lying in the grass, looking up at the Northern lights in the sky, they both seem so relaxed and happy. They're drawn softly, with lots of smooth lines and other cute little animal characters popping up here and there. The colours through the story are very blue, with a real night time feel to them. The story is open to interpretation, depending on who is reading it aloud. I also like that the characters aren't fully explained, so the big bear can easily be daddy, or mummy, or granddad or grandma. The bears are sweet, very sweet! Their faces are friendly and appealing, and I love how big the big bear looks, and how safe the baby bear seems with the big bear. Really, the sentiments are the usual 'I love you' thoughts that you get in picture books like this - the kind that you either love to share whilst reading aloud, or they make you cringe! The selling point for me is the illustrations. We also hear about the different ways of showing love - touching noses, being with our friends - before finishing off with how much the big bear loves the little bear. Our key characters are a grown up bear and a baby bear, and we see them go through various activities during their day, with the grown up saying what he or she loves doing with the little bear, everything from splashing in the bath to lifting the little one up high so they can see. It's loaded with sentiment (I'm sure I'd be crying if I were pregnant!) and is just very sweet to share with small, snuggly, just out of the bath toddlers. Sweetly drawn, in a gentle, loving story, this is a perfect 'winding-down' story. I do love a good bear story, and the bears in this one are wonderfully appealing. ![]() Summary: Oozing with sentiment, this is one for family members who like a really snuggly, emotional bedtime story!
